Activists of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) attempted to march towards Rawalakot, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) at 10:00 PM on Monday, it was reported on Tuesday.
According to the police, on their way to Rawalakot, JAAC workers attacked a security checkpoint, which resulted in the martyrdom of a Rangers jawan, who was identified as Ali Raza.
Three police personnel were also injured in the attack, the Force added.
The JAAC workers also set two vehicles of the police and Rangers ablaze.
On the other hand, the law-enforcement agencies have vowed to enforce the writ of the state come what may, and bring those responsible for violence to justice.
They have reiterated their resolve to protect the lives and properties of the people.
People of AJK have rejected rigged polls, says Fazl
On the other hand, reacting to the Rawalakot incident, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said he condemned firing at the people of AJK by the LEAs personnel. “Firing at unarmed protestors is terrorism,” he said, and added that the people of AJK had rejected rigged polls.
The JUI-F chief said that protesting against government policies was people’s constitutional right. “Are the people of AJK not allowed to raise voice for their rights?”
He said he did his best to prevent things from reaching this point. “But the state institutions did not take the issue seriously,” he lamented.
He questioned for how long those demanding their rights would be labelled as foreign agents.
Fazl said he stood shoulder to shoulder with the people of AJK against the atrocities committed against them.
