Pakistan has urged the international community to ensure the full implementation of the Gaza ceasefire and peace initiatives, warning that Palestinians continue to face catastrophic conditions despite the truce.
Speaking during a UN Security Council open debate on the Middle East and the Palestinian question, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said more than 1,100 Palestinians had been killed since the ceasefire.
He said around two million people remained confined to just 30% of Gaza’s territory, while reports of a massive earthen barrier across Gaza risked entrenching Israeli occupation and control over nearly 70% of the territory.
Asim urged the Security Council to demand an immediate halt to settlement activities and reject any attempt at annexation, forced displacement or alteration of the demographic and geographic character of the Occupied Palestinian Territory.
