At UN, Pakistan voices concern over Gaza situation

NEW YORK: Pakistan has expressed concern over deteriorating situation in the occupied West Bank and called for providing protection to the Palestinians.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar, while speaking at the UN, said that the situation in the occupied West Bank was deteriorating rapidly, and the Security Council must take immediate action.

Asim Iftikhar said that Israel’s illegal actions are aimed at consolidating the occupation, that Israel’s settlement expansion has reached alarming levels, and that settlements in other areas are an attempt to divide Palestinian land.

The Pakistani delegate said that the settler violence should stop immediately and those responsible should be held accountable.

Pakistan is deeply concerned about the provocative actions in the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and that international protection should be provided to the Palestinians, he said.

He said that the Security Council should implement UNICEF’s recommendations.
