Punjab govt schools to hold sports competitions at four levels

The Punjab School Education Department has decided to organise sports activities for students at all government schools across the province and has issued a schedule for competitions at tehsil, district, divisional and provincial levels.

According to the department, students will compete in hockey, badminton, table tennis, cricket, volleyball, athletics, chess and football.

Committees have been constituted at all four levels to organise and supervise the competitions.

At the tehsil level, the deputy district education officer will head the committee, while the concerned head teacher will serve as secretary. At the district level, the concerned chief executive officer of the education authority will be the committee convener.

The divisional director will head the committee at the divisional level, while the Director Public Instruction Punjab will serve as convener of the provincial-level committee.

The department has directed all committees to issue their respective calendars of sports activities by the end of September.

Government schools across Punjab have also been instructed to ensure maximum participation of students in the competitions.

The School Education Department said the sports programme is aimed at improving students’ physical and mental health and encouraging greater participation in extracurricular activities.
