Authorities in Lahore have launched a major cleanliness initiative featuring an anti-littering squad and e-challans to maintain city sanitation, it was reported on Tuesday.
An awareness ceremony was held at Liberty Chowk on Tuesday, attended by Lahore Deputy Commissioner Captain (r) Ali Ejaz and CEO Shehryar Arif Khan.
Starting September 1, 2026, e-challans are being used to issue warnings, with anti-littering squads deployed across roads, markets, and commercial centers. First-time offenders receive warnings and awareness rather than strict penalties.
Fines & Penalties (Under Punjab Local Government Act 2025 & Suthra Punjab Authority Act 2026) Throwing garbage in public places fines ranging from PKR 1,000 to PKR 10,000.
Failing to maintain cleanliness outside homes, shops, or factories: Fines ranging from PKR 1,000 to PKR 50,000.
Using banned plastic bags in shops and shopping malls: Fines ranging from PKR 1,000 to PKR 2,000.
Burning garbage fines from PKR 100,000 to PKR 500,000 and up to 2 years of imprisonment.
Burning tires (individually or in factories): Fines up to PKR 500,000 and up to 7 years of imprisonment.
The purpose of the anti-littering squad is to make the city waste-free, as stated by CEO Shehryar Arif Khan.
All fines must be paid exclusively through banking or digital methods, and personnel are strictly banned from collecting cash payments.
