PTI says no progress in talks can be made without meeting jailed Imran

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has said two rounds of negotiations with the government ended without a result, with the deadlock emerging over an operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a press conference alongside other party leaders on Monday, Raja said the PTI wanted peace and stability to be maintained in the country but claimed government ministers were making “irrelevant” statements about the negotiations.

“Two rounds of negotiations took place, but both ended without any result,” he said.

Raja said the PTI had presented two major demands during the talks, with the first being a meeting with the party’s founder Imran Khan

He added that the party would not make any decision without meeting its founding chairman.

The PTI leader further said the government was unwilling to accept the party’s two demands, adding that the main point of disagreement during the talks concerned an operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Raja claimed the government had said that an emergency would be imposed in some areas of KP within 72 hours.

He reiterated that a meeting with the PTI founder was necessary to move the political dialogue forward and improve the country’s political situation.
