Ukraine launched a massive wave of drone attacks against Russia, with Russian authorities reporting that as many as 650 Ukrainian drones were fired toward targets across the country.
The attack also reached the Russian capital, Moscow, where one person was killed and six others were injured, according to Russian officials.
Authorities said Russian air defence systems intercepted and destroyed most of the incoming drones. Officials reported that 105 Ukrainian drones were shot down near Moscow, highlighting the scale of the overnight assault.
The attack caused fresh alarm in the capital as Russian air defence units worked to counter the large number of unmanned aircraft. Details about damage to buildings and infrastructure were still emerging, while authorities continued assessing the impact of the strikes.
The latest escalation comes as Russia and Ukraine continue to rely heavily on drones in their ongoing conflict. Both sides have increasingly used large-scale drone attacks to target military facilities, energy infrastructure and other strategic locations.
Russian officials have repeatedly accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks deep inside Russian territory, while Kyiv has sought to strike targets it considers connected to Russia’s war effort.
In recent days, both countries have launched hundreds of drones against each other, underscoring the growing intensity of aerial warfare.
The latest strikes could further raise tensions as Moscow and Kyiv continue their confrontation with little sign of the drone campaign slowing. The reported death and injuries in Moscow add another human cost to a conflict that has increasingly extended beyond the traditional front lines.
Russian authorities said investigations into the latest attacks were continuing as air defence forces remained on alert.
