Ishaq Dar, Antonio Guterres hold talks on regional, global developments

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, with the two discussing regional and global issues.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the meeting covered Palestine, Jammu and Kashmir, Afghanistan, counterterrorism and the future of the multilateral system, along with other international matters.

Dar briefed the UN chief on Pakistan’s position regarding Jammu and Kashmir and the Indus Waters Treaty. He reiterated Islamabad’s call for a just and peaceful resolution to the Kashmir dispute in line with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

The deputy prime minister also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts aimed at promoting dialogue and reducing tensions, including Islamabad’s facilitation of talks between the United States and Iran.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective means of resolving conflicts.

According to the Foreign Office, Guterres appreciated Pakistan’s longstanding contributions to the United Nations and praised its diplomatic efforts to promote dialogue, mediation and de-escalation.
