Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal contacted Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch on the special directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, it was reported on Wednesday.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Ahsan Iqbal conveyed the prime minister’s message to the Jamaat-e-Islami leadership.
The planning minister said the meeting agreed upon during PM Shehbaz Sharif’s telephonic conversation with Jamaat-e-Islami Emir would be held soon through mutual understanding.
Earlier, PM Shehbaz Sharif had contacted the Jamaat-e-Islami Emir and requested him to withdraw the protest call. Following the conversation, the Jamaat-e-Islami had postponed its protest.
Ahsan Iqbal said providing relief to the people remains among the government’s priorities.
He added that the government would sit with Jamaat-e-Islami representatives to discuss further measures aimed at providing relief to the public.
