Punjab issues COVID and influenza alert

The Punjab government on Wednesday issued an alert to all chief executive officers (CEOs) and medical superintendents regarding COVID and seasonal flu across the province.

In the alert, the Punjab government stated that hospitals’ OPDs and other wards may witness a rush.

The Punjab government asked all the relevant officials to remain alert and ensure all available facilities to the patients.

The Punjab govt stated that the flu is more dangerous for pregnant women and patients with chronic illnesses.

The Punjab government appealed to citizens to wear masks, wash hands frequently, and avoid crowded places. Flu vaccination is the most effective prevention. Pregnant women and the elderly should be vaccinated on a priority basis.

Meanwhile, hospitals across Lahore are reportedly seeing an increase in patients experiencing fever, persistent cough, breathing difficulties, body aches, and flu-like symptoms, raising concerns over respiratory illnesses amid changing weather conditions.

The exact number of confirmed COVID-19 cases remains unclear, as government teaching hospitals are reportedly not conducting COVID-19 tests.

Claims of more than 2,000 patients within 24 hours have not been independently verified, and health authorities have not confirmed that all such cases involve coronavirus.

Health experts advise people with respiratory symptoms to maintain hygiene, wear masks in crowded or poorly ventilated places, and seek medical care if symptoms become severe.
