SYLHET: Bangladesh produced an impressive bowling performance to dismiss West Indies for 356 in their first innings, with Hasan Mahmud leading the attack by claiming six wickets in the ongoing Test match.
The fast bowler troubled the visiting side’s batting line-up and reached another significant milestone in his career, registering his fifth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Remarkably, the achievement came in his home country, marking his first five-wicket haul on Bangladeshi soil.
Hasan also added a unique record to his name, having previously taken five wickets in an innings in five different countries. His latest performance further underlined his growing importance to Bangladesh’s bowling attack.
West Indies, however, found resistance through a brilliant century from Aamir Jangoo, who top-scored with 133 runs off 212 deliveries. His innings included 13 boundaries and two sixes, helping the visitors build a competitive total despite losing wickets at regular intervals.
Jangoo looked determined to anchor the innings but Hasan eventually ended his stay at the crease, bowling him out to claim a crucial breakthrough.
Justin Greaves also made a valuable contribution, scoring 51 runs to support the West Indies batting effort. The visitors received further assistance from their lower order, as Jomel Warrican and Jayden Seales added 33 runs for the final wicket.
Hasan completed his six-wicket haul by bowling Shamar Joseph, putting Bangladesh firmly in control of the innings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also played an important role with the ball, dismissing key batters before trapping Jayden Seales leg-before-wicket to bring the West Indies innings to an end.
West Indies were eventually bowled out for 356, giving Bangladesh an opportunity to respond with the bat and take advantage of their bowlers’ hard work.
Hasan’s six-wicket performance and historic home-ground milestone emerged as the major highlights of the innings.
