WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said Washington is making efforts to reach an agreement with Iran, signalling that diplomatic efforts are continuing despite heightened tensions between the two countries.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, November 7, Trump said the United States was trying to work out an understanding with Tehran but declined to provide further details about the discussions.
“We are trying to work things out with the Iranians,” Trump indicated, adding that the situation would become clearer as developments unfolded.
The US president avoided discussing the details of Washington’s approach towards Iran, saying he did not want to disclose specific information about the matter.
He also described the ongoing US actions as limited in nature, without offering further clarification about their scope or objectives.
Trump’s remarks come amid continuing uncertainty over the future of the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran, with diplomatic efforts underway to prevent another escalation.
Meanwhile, Qatar has rejected reports suggesting that negotiations between Washington and Tehran had failed to produce an agreement.
Qatar’s Government Communications Office said reports claiming that no deal had been reached between the two countries were inaccurate.
According to the Qatari media office, some news organisations had misrepresented remarks made by the Qatari prime minister, creating a misleading impression about the status of diplomatic efforts.
The clarification comes as Qatar continues to play an important role in regional diplomatic initiatives and efforts to reduce tensions in the Middle East.
Trump’s latest comments and Qatar’s clarification have renewed attention on the possibility of a diplomatic breakthrough between Washington and Tehran.
However, neither side has announced a final agreement, and the details and progress of the ongoing contacts remain unclear.
With regional tensions still high, international attention is focused on whether diplomatic engagement can prevent further confrontation and pave the way for a broader understanding between the two countries.
