Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and over 130 other organisations have issued an open letter demanding unrestricted access for international media to Gaza and urgent protection for Palestinian journalists.
According to the letter, Israel has denied global media access to Gaza for the past 20 months. RSF stated that there is no precedent for such an action in modern warfare history. Nearly 200 journalists have been killed by the Israeli military, the letter claims.
The letter accused Israel of launching a direct assault on press freedom and access to information.
It asked Israel to open Gaza’s borders to international journalists without delay.
The letter also demanded that Israel ensure full protection for journalists under international law.
Global leaders, governments and the international community are called upon to ensure immediate implementation of these demands.
