A series of coordinated attacks in Bannu district and North Waziristan have intensified security concerns in the region, with terrorists using advanced tactics, including drone strikes, bombings, and targeted abductions.
Security forces in Bannu came under attack from a quadcopter drone near the Nala Tochi bridge. The use of a drone in the assault marks a concerning escalation in the tactics used by militant groups operating in the region.
Explosive Device Destroys Key Bridge in Haved Police Jurisdiction
In a separate incident, militants planted and detonated an explosive device on the Janikhel-Bannu connecting bridge in the Haved police station area. The powerful blast caused significant damage to the bridge, disrupting transportation and supply routes. Police officials confirmed the bridge was the target of a deliberate act of sabotage.
Two Militants Killed in Retaliatory Operation
According to police, security forces launched an immediate counter-operation and claimed to have killed two militants involved in the attacks.
FC Vehicle Targeted: One Martyred, One Injured
Terrorists also opened fire on a Frontier Corps (FC) vehicle in Bannu, resulting in the martyrdom of the vehicle’s driver and injuries to an FC personnel. A search operation has been initiated in the area to track down the assailants.
Attack on Basyakhel Police Station Repelled
A late-night militant assault on Basyakhel Police Station was successfully repelled by security personnel. Attackers approached from multiple directions using heavy weapons but were forced to retreat following strong and coordinated resistance from police forces.
District Police Officer (DPO) Bannu, Saleem Abbas Kalachi, stated that the gunfight lasted for about an hour. While no casualties were reported, the attackers managed to escape under the cover of darkness. A manhunt has been launched.
