Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) issued another tender for the import of 1,00,000 tons of sugar despite strong opposition from owners of sugar mills, it was reported on Monday.
The tenders will be opened on October 6, 2025. As per the tender documents, any bid less than 25,000 tons will not be considered.
Earlier, the Trading Corporation of Pakistan opened the first tender for the import of 1,00,000 tons of sugar on September 23, 2025.
The lowest price of sugar import was declared $34.75 per metric ton. As per the tender, the import prices of sugar were between $534.75 per metric ton $568.50 per metric ton.
The lowest bid was offered by Louis Drefus Company of Switzerland.
It is necessary to mention here that the federal cabinet allowed the import of five lakh tons of sugar in July 2025.
The government decided to import the sugar through the Trading Corporation of Pakistan.
The federal government already announced an exemption on the import of sugar.
Owners of sugar mills said that there is enough sugar available in the country.
