Cadet College, Islamabad terror attacks traced to Afghanistan: Naqvi

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has revealed that the terrorists who carried out the attack on Wana Military Cadet College and suicide bombing in Islamabad have been traced to Afghanistan.

Addressing the Senate after passage of 27th Amendment Bill on Thursday, the interior minister said “We have traced the chief perpetrators of these horrible attacks and they belonged to Afghanistan.”

Mohsin Naqvi said illegal Afghan nationals are being sent back to their country.

About security of the visiting Sri Lankan team, Mohsin Naqvi said Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir had played a key role in persuading the Sri Lankan high-ups to continue their stay in Pakistan.

“The Field Marshal talked to Sri Lankan defence minister. He also assured the players of foolproof security. Sri Lankan president made a contact and talked to Lankan cricketers after they and the Lankan board expressed reservations about security,” the minister said, adding “Sri Lankan team is out state guest and we allayed all their fears about the security.”

Later talking to the media men at the Parliament House, Mohsin Naqvi said that the assailants who had carried out attacks on the WANA Cadet College and Islamabad Judicial Complex had been identified.

Speaking to the media, he said in both instances, the attackers were Afghans, and had come from Afghanistan. “We will simply not allow any country to bomb us and go scot-free. We are reviewing this at the government level,” Naqvi said.

He said he was thankful to the Sri Lankan president, government, the country’s cricket board and its players that they decided to go ahead with the series in Pakistan.

“I am especially grateful to the Sri Lankan players because their cricket board had left it to them to decide whether to go ahead with the tour or return home,” he said, and added, “And they said they would continue the tour.”
