A province-wide security alert has been issued for colleges across Punjab, prompting immediate implementation of strict safety measures.
Acting on the Punjab Home Department’s directives, the Higher Education Department (HED) has ordered institutions to enforce tighter access controls, enhance surveillance, and submit compliance reports within a week.
According to the official letter, all colleges across Punjab have been directed to close every entrance except one main gate. Security teams have been instructed to thoroughly check all bags and vehicles entering the premises.
The letter further emphasizes using walk-through gates and metal detectors at the entry points to prevent unauthorized or dangerous items from being brought inside.
Mandatory IDs, vehicle restrictions
The security alert also requires all students and staff to carry identity cards at all times while on campus.
Vehicles without official college stickers will not be allowed to enter, ensuring that only verified students, faculty, and authorized personnel can access parking and internal roads.
Colleges have been instructed to install barbed wire on their boundary walls to prevent unauthorized entry from the outside.
Additionally, the letter stresses that proper lighting must be arranged across all college premises during night hours. This includes ensuring that walkways, corridors, and open areas are well lit to reduce potential security risks.
Mandatory CCTV, 24/7 monitoring
Every college has been directed to install suitable CCTV cameras and ensure they remain active around the clock. Surveillance should cover gate areas, hallways, parking zones, and vulnerable spots.
Institutions must also increase their security staff according to their total student population, ensuring adequate personnel are available for monitoring and patrolling duties.
The letter instructs all colleges to install fire extinguishers and fire alarms in every building to strengthen emergency response capability.
Teachers and students must also be trained on how to respond to urgent threats or emergency situations. This includes evacuation drills, awareness sessions, and safety briefings.
The Higher Education Department has directed all college principals across Punjab to submit a detailed report on the implementation of the security measures within seven days. This will allow authorities to assess compliance and identify any gaps requiring immediate attention.
