Pakistan has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the objectives and principles of the United Nations charter, while calling for comprehensive reforms to make the world body more effective in addressing emerging global challenges.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar made these remarks during a meeting with Caroline Rodriguez Burkett, a candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General, in Islamabad on Monday.
During the meeting, Dar stressed that respect for international law, international agreements and United Nations Security Council resolutions must be ensured to uphold global peace and stability.
He said the full and sincere implementation of Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine remained essential for achieving lasting peace and justice in both regions.
The deputy prime minister underlined the need for reforms within the United Nations, saying the organisation must become more effective in responding to evolving global challenges and better reflect the needs and aspirations of developing countries.
Dar reiterated that Pakistan would continue to support the promotion of multilateralism and efforts aimed at strengthening the United Nations as an effective institution capable of addressing international issues.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the meeting included an exchange of views on the challenges facing the United Nations and its evolving role in global affairs.
