Despite campaigns launched to eliminate the poliovirus, risks of the spread of the disease in Lahore persist as the presence of the virus has again been confirmed in the city’s sewage, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday.
Samples of the sewage collected at the end of the preceding year, 2025, also tested positive for the virus.
The virus was found present in the samples collected from Gulshan-e-Ravi and Outfall Road disposal stations.
However, the virus was not present in the samples collected from Multan Road and Mehmood Booty disposal stations.
Last week, the district administration successfully completed a seven-day polio vaccination campaign, achieving all targets and administering drops to 2,263,069 children.
The closing meeting, chaired by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Polio Eradication Uzma Kardar and Deputy Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza, was attended by the additional deputy commissioner general, CEO health, all assistant commissioners, and WHO observers.
The CEO Health briefed that all campaign objectives had been met, while WHO observers expressed satisfaction with the teams’ performance and noted significant improvement in the coverage of previously missed children.
