PTI senators move IHC seeking meeting with Imran Khan in jail

Fourteen senators of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), including Senator Ali Zafar, have approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) seeking permission to meet the party’s founder, Imran Khan, completing biometric verification at the court premises as part of the legal process, it was reported on Tuesday.

According to the petition filed before the IHC, the senators have requested the court to allow them to meet the PTI founder. The Punjab Home Department and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail have been made respondents in the case.

The petition further seeks court orders to end the solitary confinement of the PTI founder and his wife, Bushra Bibi, and to ensure that both are provided all rights guaranteed under the law.

On the other hand, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, while speaking to the media on Tuesday, confirmed that he, along with party leaders, had gone to the Chief Justice’s chamber to request the fixation of cases related to the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi for hearing. However, he said they were unable to meet Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar.

Barrister Gohar said that after the proceedings before the division bench, they would again approach the Chief Justice’s chamber and would try to return with a firm hearing date. He urged the judiciary to deal fairly with the party, saying PTI leaders had visited the Islamabad High Court around 15 times.

He further said that Bushra Bibi’s appeal, being that of a woman, should be heard at the earliest, adding that it was unfortunate that even her case was not being taken up for hearing.

It is pertinent to mention that Tuesday is designated as the meeting day at Adiala Jail for the former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. On the same day, Bushra Bibi’s counsel, Rai Salman Khurral, reached Adiala Jail with essential items for her. The items included clothes and food supplies, including fruits such as pineapple and papaya, as well as wax pods and herbs. The items were duly noted at the jail’s main entrance gate.
