The Punjab government has decided to launch the Apna Khet Apna Rozgar Programme across the province. The decision was taken during the 32nd meeting of the Punjab Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.
Under the programme, government-owned agricultural land will be allocated for cultivation. The aim is to promote self-employment and strengthen the agricultural economy. The cabinet directed departments to take immediate steps to provide farmland to 50,000 people.
Officials said the initiative is designed to create sustainable livelihoods, especially for youth and small farmers. The government believes the programme will reduce unemployment and increase agricultural productivity.
The cabinet also approved the creation of hundreds of new job opportunities for young people. Vacancies were approved in several departments, including the CCD, Excise Department, Home Department, and other government institutions.
Major decisions were also taken regarding public transport reforms. After introducing a new travel initiative, the government decided to extend modern green bus services to tehsil-level towns.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz instructed authorities to procure 1,000 green buses to expand the electric bus service across Punjab. She emphasized the need for safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly transport for citizens.
The cabinet further approved the implementation of a cashless payment system for electric buses starting March 25. Under the new policy, passengers paying in cash will be charged a higher fare after the system is enforced.
To support the transition, the cabinet approved the launch of T-Cash cards and bank card payment systems, which will also come into effect on March 25.
In another key decision, the Punjab government approved plans to promote Punjab’s culture and livestock sector. The cabinet decided to organize Horse and Cattle Shows in all districts. Authorities were directed to hold district-level events on the pattern of traditional Horse and Cattle Shows.
