Achakzai writes to PM Shehbaz, seeks full medical examination of Imran Khan

Opposition Leader in National Assembly Mehmood Khan Achakzai Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, raising serious concerns over the health of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan, who is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail.

In the letter, Achakzai stressed the need for a complete and transparent medical examination of Imran Khan by his personal doctors while he remains in custody.

He expressed grave concern over the fact that neither Imran Khan’s family members nor his personal physicians were present during previous medical examinations.

The opposition leader urged the prime minister to personally intervene in the matter, terming Imran Khan’s health a fundamental issue of basic human rights.

“The health of Imran Khan is a matter of basic human rights and cannot be taken lightly,” the letter stated.

Achakzai demanded that Imran Khan be examined by senior and reputable doctors from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Shifa International Hospital to ensure an independent and credible assessment of his health condition.

In this regard, he proposed the names of three personal doctors for the medical examination: Dr Muhammad Asim Yousaf, Dr Professor Mazhar Ishaq and Dr Professor Aamir Awan.

The letter emphasizes that ensuring proper medical care for the former prime minister is not only a legal obligation of the state but also essential to uphold humanitarian principles and public confidence.
