PTI says govt commits crime against Imran Khan over health issues

PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has said that PTI is going to take serious measures in this prevalent situation. The PTI leadership accused the state of committing a crime against jailed former prime minister Imran Khan after the Supreme Court was informed that only 15 percent of his vision remains in his right eye.

The information was conveyed to the SC by PTI counsel Advocate Salman Safdar, who quoted the former premier as saying that he had been left with only 15pc vision in his right eye following medical complications.

Talking to media outside the SC after a hearing, PTI Secretary General Barrister Salman Akram Raja said it was impossible to keep ahold of his emotions after reading the report and said the situation had gone far beyond the law.

“A crime has been committed against Imran Khan and the state has done it and the face of this crime is Abdul Ghafoor Anjum. We will not forget this name,” Raja said, adding that Imran had issued special instructions to initiate legal proceedings against the former Adiala jail superintendent.

Raja claimed that pain in Imran’s eye began in November and that by December he had completely lost vision in his right eye. He alleged that despite repeated complaints, the former premier was only given eye drops and was not examined by a qualified specialist until late January.

According to Salman Raja, a doctor from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) examined Imran at Adiala jail on January 26 and advised immediate hospital treatment. He was subsequently administered treatment, including an injection, at PIMS in Islamabad. Raja said the term used in the report was “occlusion of the retina”, adding that Imran had regained only 10-15% vision and could detect light but had not fully recovered.

Salman Raja alleged that the Islamabad High Court had not fixed Imran’s cases for hearing for nearly a year and demanded that his legal matters be taken up without delay.

He said that PTI will announce plan of action within few days. He said that PTI was a peaceful political party which will act as per law.

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said that head of the country’s largest political party is trouble and in order to counter this PTI was reviewing several options.

He said that today a meeting of PTI’s core committee, parliamentary committee, and the leadership of the Movement for the Protection of the Constitution of Pakistan is going to be held. “We will then formulate a plan of action”, he added.

In a separate statement, the PTI expressed profound concern and deep anguish over the report, calling the alleged denial of access to personal physicians a “grave and inexcusable act of negligence”.

The party demanded immediate and unrestricted access to trusted doctors, specialised treatment at a reputable hospital, restoration of family visitation rights and unhindered access to legal counsel. It warned that any further negligence could provoke public reaction and reserved the right to initiate legal proceedings against jail authorities and other officials.
