Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl group (JUI-F) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman called for the provision of full medical facilities to former premier Imran Khan in prison on humanitarian grounds, while PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi warned that if any prisoner were to lose eyesight at Adiala Jail, responsibility would lie with the jail administration and the Punjab government.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl group (JUI-F) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Friday called for the provision of full medical facilities to former premier Imran Khan in prison on humanitarian grounds, urging authorities to allow the PTI founder to be examined by a doctor of his choice.
In a statement, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) said political differences should not be stretched to the point where they damage social harmony, adding that politics must remain a means of serving human welfare rather than deepening divisions.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman also expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), saying repeated terrorist attacks on police had shaken society. Referring to the Paniala incident, he said four police officials, including SHO Faheem Mumtaz, were martyred in a militant attack.
He demanded that the Inspector General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa conduct a transparent inquiry into the incident, questioning how terrorists managed to seize the official SMG rifle of the martyred officer despite the presence of a large CTD contingent, and why an armoured vehicle was not provided for operations in difficult mountainous terrain against highly trained militants.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi warned that if any prisoner were to lose eyesight at Adiala Jail, responsibility would lie with the jail administration and the Punjab government.
Speaking informally to reporters during his appearance at the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore, Qureshi said he was deeply saddened to hear about Imran Khan’s eye condition, adding that prisoners also have rights which the authorities are duty-bound to protect.
He criticised the jail administration for what he termed gross negligence, saying senior PTI leader Mian Mahmoodur Rashid and former health minister Dr Yasmin Rashid were unable to attend scheduled hospital appointments due to a lack of police security and administrative arrangements.
Qureshi said his own medical treatment was ongoing at PKLI and that timely check-ups could help him avoid another surgery, but he was not being taken to hospital due to the absence of police escorts. He held the Punjab government responsible for the situation.
The PTI leader also criticised recent changes to the solar energy policy, saying citizens were encouraged to invest their life savings, only to be left in uncertainty by new policy shifts. He condemned remarks made by a PML-N leader about Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, calling them insensitive and unjustified.
Qureshi said he wanted peace in the country and agreed with the government’s stance that India was involved in terrorism in Balochistan. He added that despite being acquitted in four cases, his bail applications remained undecided, even though they involved the same cases in which bail had already been granted to Imran Khan and Dr Yasmin Rashid.
