A startling disclosure has revealed that nearly 80 percent of electricity consumers in the Larkana Circle of the Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) are defaulters, with cumulative arrears amounting to Rs48 billion, even as power supply continues across the region.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, SEPCO’s Superintendent Engineer (SE) Mushtaq Hussain Bardee confirmed that out of more than 109,000 registered consumers in the Larkana Circle, around 80 per cent have failed to clear their dues.
The SE has confirmed that the outstanding amount includes approximately Rs48 billion in domestic arrears and Rs800 million in commercial liabilities.
Despite the staggering unpaid bills, the official said electricity would be supplied without interruption during the holy month of Ramazan, particularly at Sehri and Iftar times.
He assured consumers that load-shedding would remain zero during these critical hours and that an uninterrupted power supply would be maintained throughout the month.
Bardee added that SEPCO’s 118 toll-free helpline remains fully operational, with a commitment to resolve complaints within 30 minutes.
He further stated that an extensive anti-power theft and recovery campaign is underway, expressing confidence that electricity theft-related issues would be addressed before the onset of summer.
Warning against illegal practices, the SE said that cases would be registered against unauthorised private individuals found involved in electricity theft or related violations.
