Russia has strongly denounced the recent airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, describing the operation as a deliberate and unprovoked act of aggression against a sovereign UN member state. The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a sharply worded statement criticizing what it called a clear violation of international law and the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
According to Moscow, the military operation was preceded by extensive political, military, and media preparations, including the deployment of significant US forces to the region. Russian officials argued that these actions demonstrate clear intent and planning rather than a spontaneous response.
The statement emphasized that the strikes were carried out while diplomatic efforts were reportedly underway to ease tensions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. Moscow expressed particular concern that military action coincided with renewed negotiations, undermining diplomatic channels and regional stability.
Russia voiced alarm over reports that facilities operating under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards may have been targeted. The Foreign Ministry described any bombing of safeguarded nuclear sites as unacceptable and warned of potential humanitarian, economic, and even radiological consequences.
Moscow also raised concerns about the broader implications for the global non-proliferation regime, particularly the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
