In view of the prevailing sensitive national situation, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Saturday urged citizens to exercise responsibility while using social media and digital platforms.
In a news release, the PTA advised the public not to share, disseminate, forward, or upload any unverified, inflammatory, or misleading information that may directly or indirectly harm national interest, public order, or state institutions.
Citizens were encouraged to circulate only authentic information based on official sources and to refrain from spreading rumours and fake news. The authority warned that sharing fake or misleading information could result in legal action under applicable laws.
The PTA called upon citizens to act with caution, maturity, and a strong sense of national responsibility to help maintain stability and public confidence during the ongoing crisis.
The advisory comes as border clashes between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban regime entered their third consecutive day on Saturday.
The neighbouring countries moved into what officials described as an “open war” after Pakistan retaliated forcefully in response to what it termed unprovoked firing by the Taliban regime across multiple sectors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, and Bajaur on Thursday night.
In retaliatory strikes named Operation Ghazab lil-Haq (Righteous Fury), Pakistan’s armed forces reportedly destroyed several key Afghan Taliban posts. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) also carried out strikes in Kandahar, Kabul, and Paktia, inflicting heavy losses on the Afghan side.
According to Pakistani authorities, 12 security personnel embraced martyrdom and 27 others sustained injuries during the retaliatory operations. Officials claimed that 331 Afghan Taliban fighters have been killed so far.
A day earlier, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar had stated that 297 elements of the Afghan Taliban regime were killed during Operation Ghazab Lil-Haq.
As tensions persist along the western border, authorities have stressed the importance of national unity and responsible information sharing to prevent panic and misinformation during the volatile situation.
