There is a risk of an unusual rise in temperatures across the country this month raising the possibility of the first heatwave of the season.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, rainfall in March 2026 is expected to remain below normal while temperatures are likely to stay above average. Rising temperatures may reduce the number of mosquitoes in Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.
The department further stated that due to higher temperatures, the Rabi crop may mature earlier than usual. However, below-normal rainfall could limit moisture availability for Rabi crops. At the same time, dry weather and higher temperatures may prove helpful for drying and storing rice after harvesting.
The Meteorological Department also indicated that the pollen season is expected to begin in the first week of March in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore. Increased pollen levels could lead to a rise in respiratory illnesses among children and the elderly.
Additionally, due to dry weather conditions, the intensity of fog is likely to decrease in Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
