On March 8, International Women’s Day, the Sindh government will hold a special ceremony to distribute free pink electric scooters to women across the province. This initiative is part of a broader plan to provide women with safe, independent, and eco-friendly transportation options.
Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the program aims to empower women by making their daily travel easier and more secure. Selected female recipients will not only receive electric scooters but will also be given formal training in road safety and how to operate the scooters properly. This is to ensure that women can ride confidently and safely on city roads.
The minister explained that the Pink Electric Scooters program has multiple goals. It seeks to enhance women’s mobility and independence, helping them move freely for education, work, or personal errands. At the same time, it promotes the use of environmentally friendly vehicles, reducing reliance on fuel-powered transport and cutting carbon emissions.
According to Memon, the government sees this initiative as a step toward creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for women. He emphasized that providing women with safe, accessible, and eco-conscious transport options will encourage greater participation in social and economic activities.
The program also includes workshops and awareness sessions. These sessions will teach women traffic rules, road safety measures, and basic maintenance of electric scooters. Officials believe that proper guidance is crucial to prevent accidents and ensure the long-term success of the initiative.
Memon highlighted that the Sindh government is committed to introducing more programs like this in the future. The goal is to continue expanding women’s access to facilities that increase their independence and participation in public life. He said these efforts reflect the government’s broader commitment to women’s empowerment and sustainable transportation.
