No promise made to MQM for Sindh Governor, says Rana Sanaullah

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, said on Saturday that the federal government never promised the Sindh governor’s post to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQM-P). He defended the decision to replace Kamran Tessori and explained the rationale behind it.

Rana Sanaullah said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been in active contact with Muslim leaders amid rising regional tensions. The Prime Minister recently spoke with the President of Iran. He also traveled to Saudi Arabia to strengthen diplomatic ties.

The adviser urged Iran not to target Muslim countries, especially Saudi Arabia. He praised Riyadh’s restraint and said that if Saudi Arabia avoids reacting, others should also remain cautious. He added that Pakistan does not seek to harm or occupy Afghanistan. The country only aims to protect its own interests.

On the issue of Sindh’s governorship, Rana Sanaullah said it was earlier agreed that the governors of Sindh and Balochistan would be from the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N). He stressed that there was never any promise to MQM.

He noted that Kamran Tessori was appointed during the caretaker government. At the time, an immediate change was not necessary. Later, circumstances emerged that made it appropriate to replace him. He mentioned that former caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar could clarify whose recommendation led to Tessori’s appointment.
