Authorities in Bannu successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks on Baka Khel Police Station and the Fatah Khel Checkpost early Tuesday. The assaults occurred during sehri hours when militants opened fire using small arms, heavy weapons, and sniper rifles.
Police responded immediately. Intense gunfights broke out, lasting approximately 45 minutes at Baka Khel and around one hour at Fatah Khel. The attackers eventually retreated.
A follow-up search operation led to the killing of one terrorist. Authorities recovered a Kalashnikov rifle, hand grenades, and a walkie-talkie. Initial reports indicate other attackers may have been injured during the clashes.
Security has been reinforced throughout the region. Clearance and search operations continue, and police along with security forces remain on high alert.
Sajjad Khan praised the swift and decisive response of the local police. He said the force is fully committed to protecting lives and property. He added that operations against hostile elements will continue without interruption.
Zulfiqar Rahim also commended the dedication and bravery of officers involved in the operation. He announced cash rewards and commendation certificates for personnel who participated. He emphasized that the timely action successfully thwarted the terrorists’ plans.
Officials reported that a separate late-night attempt to target the Fatah Khel checkpost on Monday had also been repelled by security personnel.
In addition, police in Peshawar foiled another attempted attack on the Sakhi Pul checkpost the same day. According to Warsak Superintendent of Police, militants tried to approach from the direction of the tribal district of Khyber. The alertness and quick response of personnel prevented any harm.
