Islamabad eases security as long march deployment ends

ISLAMABAD: Authorities have ordered the withdrawal of Sindh Police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel deployed in Islamabad for security arrangements related to the long march, according to sources in the Ministry of Interior.

The sources said around 2,000 Sindh Police personnel and 3,000 FC personnel had been brought to the federal capital to assist with security during the march. The decision to send them back comes as authorities begin removing some of the security barriers and containers placed across Islamabad.

Meanwhile, containers that had been placed at various locations across the capital have been removed in stages. According to the sources, containers filled with sandbags at the city’s entry points have already been cleared.

The sources further said approximately 50 per cent of the containers installed across Islamabad had been removed. The move is part of the ongoing process to ease restrictions imposed on roads and entry points amid heightened security arrangements.

Containers placed in the Red Zone and surrounding areas are also scheduled to be removed by this evening, the sources added.

The latest developments indicate a gradual reduction in the security deployment and roadblocks established in connection with the long march. However, further changes to security arrangements will depend on the authorities’ decisions and the situation in the capital.
