Eid-ul-Fitr to be celebrated on March 21

The Shawwal 1447 Hijri moon was not sighted in Pakistan. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Saturday, March 21, 2026. The announcement was made during a meeting at the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Islamabad, chaired by Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad.

No verified moon sightings were reported from anywhere in Pakistan, including Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Peshawar, six testimonies were received, five via telephone and one in person, which have been forwarded to the Central Committee for verification.

Meteorologists stated that the moon’s visibility angle in Islamabad was 271.36 degrees, with sunset at 6:22 pm and moonset at 6:51 pm. For sighting, the moon must be at least 19 hours and 20 minutes old, but in Islamabad, it was only 12 hours and 23 minutes. Experts said the probability of sighting the moon anywhere in Pakistan was extremely low.

The Shawwal moon was also not sighted in Saudi Arabia, where the Supreme Court announced Eid-ul-Fitr for Friday, March 20. Similarly, the UAE will observe Eid on the same day. Bangladesh and Malaysia also reported no moon sightings.
