Seven kids die in Khanewal due to Measles

KHANEWAL: The deaths of seven children within a week in Khanewal have caused fear and concern among residents, who initially suspected a measles outbreak.

According to local reports, the incident took place in Chak 2KM of Kot Islam, where several young children fell ill with similar symptoms. The deceased children, aged between one and 10 years, included Ali Zamin, Manzar Abbas, Zahra Bibi, Afshan Bibi, Inaya Bibi, and Jamshed Ali. Reports also suggest that more children in the area are currently unwell.

The situation led to panic in the village, with residents worried about the possible spread of a contagious disease. They urged authorities to take immediate action to prevent further loss of life.

Responding quickly, the district administration sent a medical team to investigate the situation. The team was dispatched under the supervision of health officials, including CEO Health Dr Asif Mahmood.

Initial findings from the health team indicate that the deaths may not have been caused by measles. Officials stated that the children did not show clear symptoms of the disease during examinations. Instead, early assessments suggest that illnesses such as gastroenteritis or other infections could be responsible.

Health authorities added that no visible signs of measles, such as characteristic skin rashes, were found in the affected children. However, they emphasized that final conclusions will only be made after detailed laboratory reports are completed.

Dr Asif Mahmood said investigations are ongoing and further test results will help determine the exact cause of the deaths. He also pointed out that poor hygiene conditions in the affected households might have contributed to the spread of illness.

Meanwhile, health officials continue to monitor the situation closely as several children remain sick, and residents await clear answers about what caused the tragic deaths.
