Pakistan must choose mediation amid regional crisis, says Fazlur Rehman

JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman has said that Pakistan has no choice but to play a mediating role in the current regional tensions, stressing the need for a clear and united national policy.

Speaking to the media in Dera Ismail Khan, Fazlur Rehman said the country is facing serious internal and external challenges. He called for an in-camera session of Parliament so that political leaders can discuss the situation openly and agree on a strategy through consultation.

He said that both national and international policies need clarity, as the Muslim world is going through continuous crises. Referring to conflicts in Iraq and Libya in the past and the current alarming situation in Iran, he said Muslim countries should consider forming a stronger united bloc to deal with common challenges.

Fazlur Rehman added that although there is discussion about Pakistan acting as a mediator, an important question remains whether the country is currently in a strong position to do so. Despite this, he maintained that mediation is the only viable option available and noted that a clear foreign policy direction is not visible at present.

He also expressed concern over the worsening law and order situation in areas such as Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, and Tank. He said tensions continue along both the eastern and western borders, and claimed that the government’s authority appears weak in several regions facing unrest.
