Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has indicated that the United States and Iran could engage in direct negotiations in Pakistan in the near future, following earlier indirect contacts between the two sides. Speaking to a German radio outlet, he said preparations are already underway for a possible meeting between representatives of Washington and Tehran, suggesting that diplomatic efforts are progressing toward face-to-face engagement.
Wadephul noted that while indirect communication has taken place, groundwork is being laid for direct dialogue, which could materialize very soon in Pakistan. He did not provide further details about the timing or agenda of the proposed talks.
The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions involving Iran, the United States, and their respective allies, as well as broader geopolitical developments linked to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.
In parallel developments, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed a defence cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia, aimed at strengthening air defence capabilities and advancing technological collaboration. The agreement is expected to support future contracts, joint initiatives, and investment in defence systems. Ukrainian expertise in counter-drone warfare, developed during its conflict with Russia, is being shared with several countries facing similar threats.
Meanwhile, European officials are preparing to raise concerns with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding alleged Russian assistance to Iran. The issue is expected to be discussed at a gathering of G7 foreign ministers in France, where global conflicts, energy security, and maritime trade routes such as the Strait of Hormuz are also on the agenda.
