Lahore-born, New York-based producer and DJ ZAINAB has entered the international music scene with her debut single “Jadoo”, marking a significant milestone in her transition from live performances to recorded releases.
The track, released under the Technicolor imprint of Ninja Tune, combines Urdu vocals with rhythmic, arpeggiated house production, creating a fusion that reflects both her cultural roots and contemporary electronic influences. The release is positioned as part of a new wave of forward-looking dance music that the label aims to promote.
ZAINAB described her debut on the platform as a meaningful opportunity, noting her appreciation for labels that support innovative and evolving sounds within the global electronic genre. She also highlighted the importance of incorporating Urdu into her music, pointing out its limited presence in mainstream dance music despite its expressive depth.
Known previously for her dynamic DJ sets in New York City, ZAINAB has built a reputation for blending diverse musical influences shaped by her South Asian background and international exposure. With “Jadoo”, she presents a more defined artistic identity, moving from performance-based work into original music production.
Beyond her solo releases, she has been active in promoting representation within the electronic music space, collaborating and sharing stages with artists such as Ali Sethi, Elyanna, and Ahadadream. She has also performed at venues and events across North America and Europe, steadily expanding her global presence.
In addition to her musical output, ZAINAB has been involved in initiatives aimed at fostering inclusive spaces for artists and audiences. Her upcoming projects include community-focused events and a label initiative designed to highlight underrepresented voices in electronic music.
