Pakistan and Egypt launch joint counter-terrorism exercise Thunder-2 in Cherat

A two-week joint counter-terrorism military exercise, Thunder-2, has commenced in Cherat at the Special Operations School, bringing together elite forces from Pakistan and Egypt in a significant display of bilateral defense cooperation.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the opening ceremony was attended by the Commandant of the Special Operations School Cherat as the chief guest. The exercise includes participation from Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group (SSG) alongside special forces personnel from the Egyptian Armed Forces.

Officials stated that the primary objective of the exercise is to enhance professional skills through joint training, improve interoperability between the two militaries, and strengthen mutual understanding in modern counter-terrorism operations.

The drill focuses on a range of specialized counter-terrorism scenarios, including tactical operations, urban warfare techniques, hostage rescue simulations, and intelligence-based mission planning. Through these activities, both sides aim to refine operational coordination and share advanced field experience.

Military sources emphasized that Thunder-2 reflects the long-standing defense relations between Pakistan and Egypt, highlighting growing cooperation in regional security and counter-terrorism efforts. The exchange of expertise is expected to benefit both forces in addressing evolving security challenges.
