A high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah focused on accelerating Pakistan–China cooperation and assessing progress on a range of joint initiatives spanning energy, agriculture, environment, and public services.
Senior officials and relevant stakeholders attended the session, where a comprehensive briefing was given on memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed during the recent visit of President Asif Ali Zardari to China. The chief minister described the visit as a pivotal step in deepening bilateral ties, reiterating that China remains a trusted partner and longstanding ally of Pakistan.
Murad Ali Shah directed all departments to expedite work on agreed projects and ensure that implementation remains on schedule. He stressed that agreements must translate into tangible development outcomes rather than remain limited to documentation. “Clear timelines, transparency, and accountability are essential to achieving real progress,” he said.
A key focus of the meeting was a proposed industrial project aimed at converting Thar coal into gas for fertilizer production. The initiative is expected to support the production of ammonia and urea using indigenous coal resources, potentially strengthening both energy security and agricultural productivity. Officials informed the meeting that the project’s feasibility study is likely to be completed by May 2026.
The session also reviewed initiatives related to livestock management, including modern registration systems, vaccination drives, and disease diagnostics, alongside projects for sewage treatment, water supply improvement, and environmental protection. The chief minister instructed that cost-effective and sustainable solutions should be prioritized to maximize long-term benefits.
Proposals to establish a Controlled Agriculture Science and Education Park, along with plastic and rubber recycling facilities, were also discussed. Additionally, modern firefighting systems were considered, with suggestions to develop such infrastructure within Special Economic Zones to enhance efficiency and attract investment.
Murad Ali Shah emphasized the need for stronger coordination with Chinese partners and urged authorities to remove administrative hurdles that could delay progress. He called for improved facilitation for investors and consistent monitoring of ongoing projects.
