Hafiz Naeem says 26th, 27th constitutional amendments violate Constitution and Shariah

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said that some clauses of the 26th and 27th constitutional amendments are in conflict with the Constitution and Shariah.

Addressing lawyers at the High Court Bar, he said the party had clearly opposed these amendments at the time of their introduction. He added that no major political party effectively opposed them, and anything against the Constitution holds no legal or moral validity.

Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman also strongly criticized recent transfers of judges, calling them condemnable and an attack on judicial independence. He said governments keep changing, but benefiting from short-term political gains is not meaningful.

He stressed that education standards should not be different for the rich and the poor.

He further said that around 44 percent of the population is living below the poverty line, while approximately 2.4 to 2.5 million cases are pending in courts. He questioned how justice can be delivered to the poor under such conditions.

He also criticized the outsourcing of government schools to private individuals, saying power is concentrated in a few hands. He said local governments are not being empowered, elections are not being held regularly, and even when elections take place, authority is not transferred to the grassroots level.

Earlier, Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, on Saturday said that imposed rulers cannot win the confidence of the masses and stressed that sovereignty must be returned to the people, insisting that meaningful change would only come through a complete overhaul of the system.

Addressing the launch ceremony of Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide membership drive at Moon Market, Allama Iqbal Town, he said the musical chairs of power among those nurtured by the establishment must end.

He later addressed online gathering of party workers across the country from Mansoorah.

The JI Emir announced target of five million members and 20,000 public committees under the campaign, noting that the party currently has around two million members and 15,000 committees nationwide.
