JI leads protest in Swabi against inflation, fuel prices and power outages

A protest rally led by Jamaat-e-Islami was held in Swabi against rising inflation, increased petroleum prices and prolonged electricity load shedding, with participants demanding relief measures and the restoration of basic services.

The rally began from Jahangira Road and culminated at Aman Chowk, where demonstrators raised slogans against what they termed unjust economic policies and excessive power outages. Protesters also called for the restoration of CNG supply, arguing that its suspension had added to the financial burden on citizens.

Addressing the gathering, district ameer Mufti Murad said inflation under the current government had made life increasingly difficult for low-income groups. He stated that the surge in petrol and diesel prices, combined with the closure of CNG stations, had severely impacted transporters, rickshaw drivers, traders and daily wage earners.

Participants expressed concern over ongoing electricity load shedding, describing it as unjust, particularly in a region that contributes to power generation. They alleged that despite producing electricity, residents were subjected to excessive and “illegal” outages.

Speakers warned that the current economic situation was pushing people towards extreme hardship, with some families struggling to meet basic needs. The rally concluded with a demand for immediate government action to control inflation, ensure fuel availability and end unscheduled power cuts.
