‘Let’s talk,’ govt extends invitation to opposition

ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Mahmood Khan Achakzai has reportedly suggested to meet the prime minister at a “neutral venue” in response to an invitation for talks extended by Shehbaz Sharif.

According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz sent a message to Achakzai, inviting him to meet either at the Prime Minister’s Office or the Prime Minister’s House.

Sources said Achakzai declined to meet him at the Prime Minister’s Office or House, but proposed holding the meeting at a neutral venue instead.

Initially, Achakzai agreed to meet at the residence of Federal Minister Rana Sanaullah.

According to sources, communication between the government and the opposition took place last week. They will discuss the political situation, including the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commission members, they added.
