Netflix has given a series order to Calabasas, a new teen romance drama created by Chris Van Dusen, best known for Bridgerton. The project brings together high-profile executive producers Emma Roberts and Kim Kardashian, adding major industry attention.
The series is based on Via Bleidner’s 2021 memoir-style novel If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous by Now, which explores identity, privilege, and adolescence in wealthy Los Angeles communities. Set in Calabasas, California, the story focuses on a private elite school where status, relationships, and reputation shape teenage life.
At the center of the narrative is the headmaster’s daughter, who becomes involved in a forbidden romance with a rebellious outsider. Their relationship triggers emotional conflict, exposing the pressures of growing up under constant social scrutiny in an affluent environment.
Chris Van Dusen will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer under his overall deal with Netflix. His involvement reflects the platform’s continued investment in high-end romantic drama following the global success of Bridgerton, which remains one of Netflix’s most-watched original series.
Emma Roberts and Kim Kardashian are attached as executive producers. Kardashian continues to expand her role in television production alongside her broader business and media ventures, while Roberts maintains a growing presence behind the camera.
Netflix has not yet announced casting or an official release date for Calabasas. However, the project has already generated strong online interest due to its mix of teen romance, luxury lifestyle themes, and celebrity involvement.
Industry observers expect the series to appeal strongly to teen and young adult audiences, with early comparisons drawn to dramas such as Gossip Girl and The O.C. Further production details are expected once filming begins later this year.
