EU Foreign Policy Chief Kaja Kallas to visit Pakistan for high-level talks

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas, is scheduled to visit Pakistan shortly after the Eid al-Adha for high-level discussions with the country’s leadership, diplomatic sources said.

According to diplomatic sources, Kallas will arrive in Islamabad on May 31 as part of an important diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and the European Union.

During her visit, the EU foreign policy chief is expected to hold bilateral talks with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar. Discussions are likely to focus on bilateral relations, regional developments, economic cooperation and international issues of mutual interest.

Sources said Kallas is also expected to meet senior Pakistani leaders during her stay in Islamabad, reflecting the growing importance of Pakistan-EU engagement on a range of political, economic and security matters.

Diplomatic circles view the visit as particularly significant against the backdrop of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, as well as the broader global energy and economic challenges facing many countries.

The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on regional and international developments, strengthen diplomatic cooperation and explore avenues for enhanced partnership between Pakistan and the European Union.
