Federal govt proposes higher development budget for Gilgit-Baltistan

The government has proposed a significant increase in Gilgit-Baltistan’s development budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year.

According to budget documents, the proposed allocation exceeds Rs39 billion, marking a 27.32% increase compared to the revised development budget of Rs30.67 billion for the current fiscal year. Compared to the original allocation of Rs37.1 billion, the increase stands at 5.26%.

The government has earmarked Rs23 billion under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) and block allocation. It has also proposed Rs4 billion under the Prime Minister’s Special Package.

Key energy projects include Rs2.2 billion for the 16MW Naltar Hydropower Project, Rs1.71 billion for solar power installations at various sites across Gilgit-Baltistan, and Rs1 billion for the establishment of a regional power grid.

The proposed budget also includes funding for drainage systems, road infrastructure, water supply schemes, and hospital construction projects across the region.
