AJK police says CMH Rawalakot siege ended, situation under control

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police have said that the law and order situation in Rawalakot has been brought under control following violent clashes involving armed elements linked to a banned action committee.

According to a press release, armed individuals opened fire on law enforcement personnel on the evening of June 7 and later attempted to lay siege to CMH Rawalakot. The incident reportedly disrupted hospital operations and affected routine medical services.

Police stated that during the unrest, attackers also set fire to multiple locations and damaged both public and private property. Security forces responded with what they described as a targeted and limited operation carried out between the night of June 7 and early June 8.

Authorities said the siege of CMH Rawalakot has now been completely lifted. Hospital services have reportedly returned to normal, and medical activities have resumed without disruption.

Officials added that law enforcement acted with restraint and professionalism during the operation, prioritising the safety of civilians, patients, medical staff, and state property.

The statement said that since June 6, four law enforcement personnel have been killed during firing by armed elements. These include three personnel from AJK Police and one from the Frontier Constabulary. Several others were injured.

Police also claimed that three individuals linked to the banned group were killed due to what they described as indiscriminate firing during the unrest. They added that further casualties occurred on the night of June 5–6.

Authorities said that armed elements have now been dispersed and normalcy has been restored in most areas. Major roads have reopened to traffic, while markets and commercial centres are functioning as usual.

AJK Police and other security agencies said they remain committed to maintaining law and order and ensuring the protection of lives and property.

They announced that funeral prayers for the deceased security personnel will be held with full official honours. Legal action against those involved in violence is ongoing, and authorities vowed to bring the organizers of the unrest to justice.

The public has been urged to avoid participating in any activities linked to the banned group and to rely only on official sources for verified information, as further updates will be shared as the situation develops.
