Rs1.99 per unit cut in electricity tariff notified

Good news for consumers as electricity prices have been reduced by Rs1.99 per unit.

According to a notification issued on Tuesday, the relief would apply to consumers across the country.

The notification informed that the reduction had been made under the quarterly adjustment (from January 2026 to March 2026), and it would remain effective for a period of three months (from June 2026 to August 2026).

It further stated that consumers of the Karachi-Electric would also benefit from the cut in prices.

It informed that consumers would get the relief of over Rs67.17 billion.

It is worth-mentioning here that four days ago, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) had approved a reduction of Rs1.99 per unit in the power tariff under the quarterly adjustment, providing relief to consumers across the country.

NEPRA had forwarded its decision to the federal government for notification and implementation.

The latest relief comes shortly after Nepra approved a Rs1.19 per unit increase in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for April 2026.

Officials said that quarterly adjustment was intended to reflect variations in power sector costs and revenues, while the monthly fuel adjustment accounted for fluctuations in fuel prices used in electricity generation.
