DHAKA: A post-series controversy has intensified after Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das made fresh remarks about Pakistan’s star keeper Mohammad Rizwan, reigniting debate over on-field conduct and sportsmanship following a heated Test series between the two sides.
Pakistan recently suffered a disappointing whitewash in a Test series played in Bangladesh, but much of the post-match attention has shifted away from results and toward a tense on-field exchange between Litton Das and Rizwan during the series.
The incident reportedly took place during the first Test, when Litton accused Rizwan of deliberately slowing down the game, leading to a verbal confrontation between the two players. The exchange briefly escalated the atmosphere on the field, with both sides engaging in visible tension.
Now, days after the series concluded, Litton Das has revisited the incident in an interview, alleging that Rizwan displayed “unprofessional behaviour” by not engaging in handshakes with Bangladesh players after matches.
“If Rizwan had an issue with me, that is one thing, but the entire Bangladesh team did nothing wrong,” Litton reportedly said. He added that while Pakistan’s other players shook hands with the opposition, Rizwan did not, which he described as “not acceptable at this level of cricket.”
The Bangladesh wicketkeeper further claimed that emotions naturally run high during competition but insisted that players are expected to show mutual respect once the match concludes.
The remarks have added fuel to an already sensitive situation, especially given the earlier exchange during the first Test when Litton accused Rizwan of time-wasting tactics. He later explained that he felt pressure during a crucial phase of the match, noting Rizwan’s strong record against Bangladesh and suggesting that his on-field reactions were part of an attempt to disrupt his rhythm.
Rizwan, known for his competitive intensity and emotional style of play, has not yet publicly responded to the latest comments.
Cricket analysts say such incidents, while not uncommon in high-pressure series, highlight the fine line between aggression and sportsmanship in modern cricket.
