Electricity consumers across Pakistan may face another increase in power tariffs as a request has been submitted to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority for a rise of 82 paisa per unit under the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism, it was reported on Wednesday.
According to the application filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency, the proposed increase is part of the monthly adjustment for May 2026. The request has been submitted for approval to the regulatory authority, which is expected to review the matter in an upcoming hearing.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has scheduled a hearing for 30 June to consider the petition and decide whether the proposed adjustment will be passed on to consumers.
If approved, the increase is likely to be reflected in electricity bills for the month of July, affecting domestic and commercial consumers across the country.
Officials noted that in the previous month, electricity tariffs were already increased by Rs1.19 per unit under the April monthly adjustment. That increase was implemented in the June billing cycle, placing additional burden on consumers.
The latest proposal comes amid ongoing fluctuations in fuel costs and power generation expenses, which continue to impact electricity pricing in the country.
The final decision will be taken by NEPRA after reviewing the submitted data and hearing arguments from relevant stakeholders.
