SC issues notice to Ch Parvez Elahi in Punjab Assembly illegal recruitments case

The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday granted interim bail to Rai Mumtaz, a co-accused in the Punjab Assembly illegal recruitments case, besides issuing notices to a senior PTI leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi and Muhammad Khan Bhatti.

The apex court also sought from the trial court a report on the case.

During the hearing, Deputy Prosecutor Punjab said that both accused, Elahi and Bhatti, were making wrong use of the bail. “Ever since they have been granted bail, they have skipped the court hearings 18 times,” he said, and added that due to the continuous absence of the accused, the trial was being delayed.

A three-member bench of the SC, headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, heard the case.
